The spine is the line that runs down the center of the cricket bat’s back starting from the handle and running down to the toe. Higher spine or a thicker swell depth represents more willow mass behind the sweet spot.
A flat FACE: Round is the traditional shape that until 15 years ago was all there was. You get more deflection for off-centred shots, which a touch player can exploit for late shots backward of the square. Round faces put less stress on the shoulders and handle because that energy is deflected rather than twisting the blade. All that puts stress around the splice joint, so the flatter the face the more twist is generated the harder you hit and closer to the edge. It is the same reason a flatter face is more forgiving and more energy remains in the shot for off-centre shots making the middle feel wider. The big edge was a by-product of the flatter face. The new MCC law allows for a maximum of 5 mm camber. This is probably a good compromise
A Mid SWEET SPOT POSITION:
