Very little scalloping of the back profile of the bat.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats РFull PROFILE SHAPE: The full player’s style cricket bat is the most common of bats in cricket bat production. This kind of profile is both the most powerful and most forgiving. Such a design is what you will usually see at the international level. A full profile usually means one of two things. Either the bat is constructed from high quality lightweight willow or has an above average weigh with minimum concaving and scalloping at the back of the bat.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats¬†– A Standard BOW: The Cricket Bow is¬†the curve of the cricket bat from the tip of the handle to the end of the toe. The Cricket bow is based on the personal preference of you as a batsman. Some cricket players prefer cricket bats with a larger bow. When seen in profile, you‚Äôll notice that there is a curve from the bottom of the handle through to the toe. This entire curve is referred to as the ‚Äėbow‚Äô. The regular bow is found in the majority of modern cricket bats which gets your hands slightly ahead of the ball for ease of stroke play. It also helps the cricket bat feel more aggressive in your hands.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats¬†– A Medium SPINE HEIGHT: What is the spine of a cricket bat? Cricket Bat Spine is found on the back face of the cricket bat. The spine is¬†the line that runs down the center of the cricket bat’s back starting from the handle running down to the toe. ¬†A higher spine or a thicker swell depth represents more willow mass behind the sweet spot. Often combined with big edges to create a forgiving bat with an extra wide hitting zone which still rewards striking the blade out of the very middle of the bat.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats¬†– A Semi-Flat FACE: One of the latest trends in cricket bat faces was born from the need to add some durability to the edges of flat-faced bats. When prepared correctly semi-flat faces bring the benefits of slightly bigger edges, a wider sweet spot plus ‘point and shoot’ aiming of a flat face bat. A slight curve also allows batsmen to be confident when using the wrists to manipulate the face angle.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats РBig EDGES: Big edges make for a forgiving and powerful cricket bat with a wider sweet spot.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats¬†– A Mid SWEET SPOT POSITION: Not too high or too low, the mid sweet spot position is the most popular setup among all cricket bats. You would be looking for a mid-sweet spot if you see yourself as a ‘complete’ batter. This means if you enjoy strokes on the front and back foot, you play on all types of wickets and you want the largest area for the sweet spot. This setup gives performance both straight and square of the wicket, while allowing players to be confident with an array of shots. This prime sweet spot position is also famous for what many refer to as a ‘balanced’ pickup.

Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats РRound HANDLE TYPE: Allows the bottom hand to come into play more easily for aerial shots. As a loose rule player that attack mainly with horizontal bat shots tend to prefer a Round handle as it allows for an easier roll of the wrist over the ball. Typically the choice of Asian players. It is for players who are wristy, like using the bottom hand and like to feel the bottom hand on the handle.
Kingsport Gt Stinger Kingsport bats – Semi-flat or square TOE: This bat needs some form of toe preparation via shoe goo, a toe guard or your favourite secret recipe.

When prepared correctly semi-flat faces bring the benefits of slightly bigger edges, a wider sweet spot. A slight curve also allows batsman to be confident when using the wrists to manipulate the face angle.

¬†Kingsport Epic Kingsport bats- A Mid SWEET SPOT POSITION: Not too high or too low, the mid sweet spot position is the most popular setup among all cricket bats. This setup gives performance both straight and square of the wicket, while allowing players to be confident with an array of shots. This prime sweet spot position is also famous for what many refer to as a ‘balanced’ pickup.

Kingsport Epic Kingsport bats- Semi- Oval HANDLE TYPE: A happy medium that brings the benefits of both oval & round handles. This shape aids alignment slightly strengthens the Top hand for more controlled stroke play and still allows for creative use of the bottom hand.

Kingsport Epic Kingsport bats- A Rounded TOE: The rounded toe protects the bat against any damage while hitting the bat on the crease or while running between the wickets. It prevents the edge of the toe from splitting or cracking, which then could lead to more cracking all over the bat.

A bat choice is a very personal thing there’s a lot of good practice you can adopt when making your choice:

  1. Don’t limit yourself to appearance. First, make sure it feels correct and right in your hands. Test the rebound ability of the bat. Don’t try and make a bat that feels wrong but flies off the blade, feel right.
  2. Understand that low middles don’t really change the way the bat hits the ball, even on slow low wickets. Balance is key, and if the bat is correctly balanced, the extra speed in your swing will more than compensate for the lowness of the pitch.
  3. Your bat needs to make you feel confident.
  4. Grain: nothing in bat making is more misunderstood. The rebound and timing of the ball tell all. The appearance tells very little. However, it’s true that even straight grains, whether there be 6 grains or 26, tend to offer good all-around performance. The most important aspect is the timing, sweet spot and the rebound of the ball tells more than the look of the wood.
  5. Spend time to make sure the handle feels right. To legend cricket players carried Elastoplast rolls in their bags just to reshape their handles.
