Although the grade of the willow is not as good as the Ton Gold edition, you will still feel the bat’s elegant pickup and rebound.

The willow is naturally air-dried and shaped as per the specifications of the world’s top players. The bat is supported with big massive concave edges that enable high optimum performance. Edge thickness is between 38-40 mm.

The specially designed scale Bat Handle Grip and the combination of the Sarawak Cane Handle will give you an excellent feel. The Weight of the bat can vary between 1200-1255 grams, but the pickup weight I would say is about 1100 grams. The embossed chrome sticker gives the bat a great finish. Made and prepared in India. Available in the Long blade and short handle sizes. The handle feels a bit thin with the triangular grips, I would change it with the ripple grips that are thicker and that will make the pick-up of the bat lighter.

One of the lightest bats, I felt in a long time. The dead weight is at 1049 grams. The pickup doesn’t feel lighter as the actual dead weight in my hands when I pick up the bat. But the feeling of such a light bat gives me goosebumps.

It has a massive profile and feels like a lot of wood is behind the sweet spot. Big edges of 37mm to 39mm with a spine height of 65mm are incredible for this light bat. This bat will suit younger batsmen that want to transition into a Short Handle bat that is not too heavy. Because it has a grade 1 English willow blade the handle is a Sarwak 12-piece cane handle. The handle is stiffer and will last longer. It still has the 3 rubber inserts in the handle for shock absorption.

The price point for this grade 1 English willow bat is at $37o. A really good price for an excellent bat.

The full bat profile with limited concaving assists with a lot of willow and meat behind the sweet spot. The Middle sweet spot assists on more bounce and low pitches. You can easily score runs on the front and the back foot with this specific bat. A slight bow that is traditional to subcontinent conditions is prominent in this bat. This is a combination of the traditional and large bow. The focus is more on a mid to lower sweet spot. I will say it is more of a semi-oval handle that goes into more round in the middle and end of the handle. Just make sure. some handles are 9-piece cane handle and others are 12-piece handle with 3 rubber inserts for shock absorption. The rounded edge profile that runs from the toe to the shoulder makes this a bat with power and a huge presence if the bat is in your hands. The bat is well balanced as the bat doesn’t feel bottom heavy in hand. The toe looks slight and thick and fitted normally with a BDM toe guard. BDM bats are pre-knocked in and normally ready to play. I would suggest still hit in the edges and first play in the nets with a softer old ball.

12 piece treble spring cane handle

BDM bats- Full PROFILE SHAPE: Little to no wood taken out of the bat. The full player’s style cricket bat is the most common of bats in cricket bat production. This kind of profile is both the most powerful and most forgiving. Such a design is what you will usually see at the international level. A full profile usually means one of two things. Either the bat is constructed from high-quality lightweight willow or has an above average weight with minimum concaving and scalloping at the back of the bat.

BDM bats- A Slight BOW: This is a combination of the traditional and large bow which is the most common when making a cricket bat. Indian sub-continental shapes are typically seen with a more pronounced bow enabling the sweet spot to be lower on the blade as well. Ideal to bat with this bat on slow low pitches. This is a regular bow found in the majority of modern cricket bats which gets your hands slightly ahead of the ball for ease of stroke play. It also helps the cricket bat feel more aggressive.

BDM bats- Medium SPINE HEIGHT: Often combined with big edges to create a forgiving bat with an extra wide hitting zone which still rewards striking the blade out of the very middle.

BDM bats- Mid to more low SWEET SPOT POSITION: A 2-in-one setup that allows favorability to players who like to hit down the ground, but still want the benefits of a mid-sweet spot.

BDM bats- Semi oval HANDLE TYPE: The handle has 3 rubber inserts that assist with shock absorption and comfort. A happy medium that brings the benefits of both oval & round handles. This shape aids alignment slightly weakens the bottom hand for more controlled stroke play and still allows for creative use of the bottom hand.

BDM bats- A semi square to square TOE: This bat needs some form of toe preparation via shoe goo, a toe guard or your favorite secret recipe.

Virat Kholi

Virat Kholi played in his first senior international match for India with a BDM bat. As a youngster, he captained the u/19 Indian team in the u/19 world cup and led his team on the batting front with a BDM in his hands. He is still playing currently and is a Cricket Legend that started his career of with BDM. If he batted with BDM. Why can't you?

Sachin Tendulkar

The little Maestro also had an BDM in his hands. What BDM was it? You are correct. It was the Amazer. Although he played with a number of bats in his career, he had a BDM in his hands as well. His stroke making and temprament made him a unique batsmen.

Conclusion

BDM is the oldest Batting brand in India and one of the oldest in the world. They are more than 100 years old. A lot of Cricket legends had played with BDM cricket bats. BDM don’t sponser as much cricket players as SG and SS. They make really good full-profile bats that give consistent performance. They have lost ground to SG and SS. I think it has only to do with marketing, as they make and manufacture phenominal bats.
